Mallory Writes: Marcy Finds Her Glow

Marcy Finds Her Glow, the debut children's book by author Mallory Thayer, is a story of redemption and accepting your unique differences as strengths.

Meet Marcy

Marcy doesn't shine like the other stars.

In fact, she doesn’t even know if she can shine at all! When her attempt to glow fails miserably, Roger and the rest of the stargang make fun of her. Upset, Marcy runs away from her galaxy and plans to never return. But then, Marcy makes a mistake—she falls out of the sky and into another world…the ocean on Earth!

Marcy explores her new nautical environment in search of anything—or anyone—who can help her get back to the sky. Can any of her new sea creature friends help her get back to the other stars?

Could one of them even help her find her glow?

Just like Marcy and her new sea creature friends, we all need to remember “I can only be who I am.” Just because our light might shine a little bit differently, it doesn’t mean we don't belong. Come along on Marcy’s ocean adventure and discover how she finds—and accepts—her glow!

I Can Only Be Who I Am.

My name is Mallory Thayer.

I grew up and have lived most of my life in the Midwest and spent much of my childhood writing books to pass the time at my older brothers' baseball, soccer, and football games.

I originally wrote Marcy Finds Her Glow as a pre-teen, and after nearly two decades, I am so proud to finally share it with the world. We are all just like Marcy, and we all need to learn to overcome insecurities and accept what makes us unique, what makes us different.

In addition to being an author, I am an avid world traveler, a yoga enthusiast, disco music aficionado, and mediocre electric bass player. I currently live in Atlanta with my cat, Karina.
